May Day Festival 2018

On May Morning by John Milton

Now the bright morning star, day’s harbinger,
Comes dancing from the east, and leads with her
The flow’ry May, who from her green lap throws
The yellow cowslip and the pale primrose.
Hail, bounteous May, thou dost inspire
Mirth and youth and warm desire!
Woods and groves are of thy dressing,
Hill and dale doth boast thy blessing.
Thus we salute thee with our early song,
And welcome thee, and wish thee long.

Dancing ‘round the May Pole in Celebration of Spring!

Spring has come and finally shown her true colors, and in the ancient northern tradition, we at Pleasant Ridge celebrate the marriage of Heaven and Earth that Spring embodies by enacting our May Day celebration. Light from the Sun pierces and weaves through space coming through resistance and darkness into Earth. The deeds and sufferings of the light reveal themselves as the colors we see; therefore, we see the straight and high Maypole with its many-colored ribbons as a picture of the Sun’s light coming to Earth and culminating in the renewed life of Spring.

On the first Friday in May, Pleasant Ridge Waldorf School celebrates Spring with a fun-filled May Day Festival! On Friday, May 4th the festivities begin with all gathering to the May Pole (by the ‘big hill’ in the playground). There, we shall discover the mysterious May Queen and King, dance, and play games. There will be an opportunity for parents to dance around the May Pole, should they choose, while the children play games. Members of the community are welcome to join us beginning at 12:50 pm.  The Seventh Grade Plant Sale shall also occur throughout the festivities, a fundraiser for the 7th grade, will offer you an opportunity to take home beautiful plants.
